Backstage in Rancho Cucamonga, CA with Choo Choo Soul

A backstage visit to the process of getting ready for a Choo Choo Soul live show!

The Choo Choo Soul Journey... Kansas City

My life has become the most amazing journey. Through music and performance I have truly found my place, in entertaining children.

My career began in Hip-hop & R&B music in the SF Bay Area. Who knew that freestyling with rappers and singing hooks with musicians would lead me to wearing a polyester suit and singing for kids!

Over the last 7 years.. (yes, SEVEN!!) I have toured live with my group Choo Choo Soul. I can't even count how many shows I have done, how many cities I have seen and how many experiences I have had. It seems crazy that I haven't been meticulously documenting every journey! Some of you reading this have kept up on my facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/genevieve.goings or the Choo Choo Soul FB page, http://www.facebook.com/choochoosoul or twitter @choochoogirl and seen where we have traveled. I have many albums of photos and a little bit of down time, and I think now is the right time to start blogging about my travels with Choo Choo Soul!

I am writing this entry from my hotel in Kansas City on Memorial Day Weekend. I have my sliding door cracked and I am hearing the sounds of an orchestra playing for thousands of people.

This is Kansas City's "Celebration at Union Station" , a celebration of all things American through music led by the Kansas City Symphony's Michael Stern. I've heard the patriotic classics such as "God Bless America"  and "America the Beautiful" float in on the warm air. This is heaven! I jumped a few inches off of my chair when I heard the cannons go off as part of the ritual! At 9:30 they will set off fireworks that will surely send the crowd "oohing and aweing!"

I have been to Kansas City several times before, brought here by our friends at "Jiggle Jam, " an annual KC family festival that we love to be a part of. We always have a great crowd and absolutely love the people here! Since the show was today and I didn't get any snaps, here is a great one from the stage last year...

Even seven years later, it is still a rush to step on that stage and know that it is my job to make these kids happy for an hour. I love it!

The weather in Kansas City is HOT, to say the least. Every year at this time we come out and sweat profusely for a few hours in the midst of our fun. The humidity today was at about 80% I believe. Much different from California!

More to come, folks.... Thank you for reading! Onward to the next City!
